On 9th March, the Birmingham Mail reported that union members at the University of Birmingham have voted for weeks of strike action in April, June and beyond, in response to the restructuring plans.
BUCU spokesman Carl Chinn stated: “We will not accept any compulsory redundancies. This just goes to show the strength of feeling among our members. People who have worked for this university for a long time feel let down and dismayed.”
The proposed action would involve a full week of strike action during revision summer term 2016, another full week during exam board week, and continuous strike action with one day of strike per week (alternating days) beginning with autumn term 2016.
Negotiating with the University is ongoing, and students have come out in force against the proposed restructuring.
